My kids tote their personalized lunch boxes to school each and every day. With four kids in our household, buying four school lunches per day would add up fast. We’re talking upwards of $160 a month, which is almost equivalent to the monthly payment on my first car. I was raised in a frugal household, and old habits are hard to break. Packing their school lunches is definitely a more economically-sound choice. Another bonus: packing my kids’ lunches every morning ensures I know what they’re eating. I truly believe I can set the bar for a lifetime of healthy eating habits by showing them what we should all be eating. I can show them by packing their lunches with fun, fresh, healthy food choices.
Having taught middle school for several years before the birth of my triplet boys, I’ve witnessed the eating habits of kids with lunch money to spend. If those kids had money burning a hole in their pockets, they were bound to spend it on a mountain of French fries, a tower of Nachos steaming with orange “cheese,” and chocolate chip cookies the size of their palms. It’s no wonder we have an ongoing childhood obesity epidemic in this country! We can all help kids circumvent the temptation served up in school lunch lines by packing healthy food into affordable lunch totes.
Promotional lunch boxes are a popular item in our line of business. Schools and parent/teacher organizations often print lunch boxes with their school name and school mascot. Businesses will often choose to give away custom lunch boxes as a back-to-school promotion. Why not take this marketing strategy a step further? Why not commit your brand to the concept of healthy eating and healthy living for kids? Include some recipes with colorful photos to inspire parents and kids to make healthy eating a priority in their lives.
As a mom, I rely on blogs, Pinterest (check out Show Your Logo’s Pinterest Board titled Lunch Box Love), and some favorite lunch box themed books for help generating fresh ideas for fun, visually appealing, and healthy lunches for my kids. Whether you’re a mom on the PTO planning the school picnic or a corporate buyer strategizing your back-to-school promotion, we all want what’s best for kids. Nurture healthy eating habits when you give away promotional lunch boxes.
As for my kids? They unanimously adore DIY lunchables. We pack whole grain crackers, low-fat cheese, sliced turkey breast, baby carrots, and sliced strawberries and blueberries into a divided container at least once a week. Yes, it takes more effort to pack their lunches than to send them off to school with some cash, but I take great satisfaction in knowing they’re not eating that cringe-worthy, orange nacho “cheese” every day.
An investment in custom lunch boxes and printed lunch box accessories is clearly a healthy marketing choice.
