How has breast cancer touched your life?
No one wants to be affected by breast cancer, but chances are you already have. Chances are you know someone who’s battled breast cancer. Maybe you’ve even toughed out breast cancer yourself.
My BFF was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 at the ripe old age of 30, living proof that breast cancer isn’t just for the elderly, like my grandmother who was diagnosed well into her seventies. (Check out this post to read about our participation in the 2008 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in the Rocky Mountains.) That pink ribbon that starts to explode all over the stores every October has taken on new meaning ever since.
Rena and I are usually on the phone with each other, even while grocery shopping. Every October, our conversations are punctuated with my exclamations about pink ribbon soup! Pink ribbon Jello! Pink ribbon dishwasher soap! It’s pretty amazing that so many companies support such a worthy cause. And yes, I’m more likely to toss those items into my cart because maybe those corporate dollars invested into research are part of the reason my cohort is still around to drink another martini with me on Friday nights.
Now that October is on the horizon, your company may be on the look out for some fresh product ideas to promote your investment in breast cancer research. Custom printed items are also a terrific way to raise the hefty amount of money required to participate in events like the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer or the Susan G. Komen sponsored events.
Whether you’re looking for super affordable or high end custom t-shirts or printed promotional products, there are tons of terrific options available.
Plastic Mason Jar Mugs with Handle
Everybody’s doing mason jars these days. To men, they speak of manly things like moonshine. To women: a nod to the past and all things classic. (A friend just attended a lovely wedding in a barn where everyone drank from mason jar mugs. I saw the photos. It was a gorgeous event.)
These mason jar mugs are certain to be a hit.
Print on Nail Polish
Most of the participants in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer were women. Here’s a terrific giveaway they’ll all put to good use to prepare for the day of the walk and beyond.
And these pink products? Just the tip of the iceberg. Contact the Show Your Logo sales team for expert advise on choosing the right products for your target market on a budget.
Rena and I raised the bulk of our necessary funds for the Avon Walk with the sale of promotional products. They work!

Customize these fun sunscreen lotion bottles with your logo and your choice of SPF 15, 30, or 45.
It’s not quite summer yet…and it definitely doesn’t feel like summer this chilly Spring in Chicagoland. Nevertheless, if you’re venturing into the great outdoors, sun protection is a must. Of course, once the sun does show its face around here in true summer-in-Chicago fashion, sun protection will be in even higher demand. No matter where you and your customers may be on the globe, everybody can benefit from sun care promotional products.

Amy and her BFF near the Day One finish line in the 2008 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
When I needed to raise a minimum $1800 in order to participate in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in the Rocky Mountains several years ago, I immediately turned to promotional products. Why wouldn’t I? I found a generous guy right down the hall at Show Your Logo willing to donate a few hundred custom sports bottles as well as some other affordable yet useful promo items. Screen printed with a pink ribbon and a personal message (“live, laugh, love”), these print water bottles came in über handy to help raise that mega ton of money. Together with my co-walker and BFF, these sport bottles helped us raise almost $4,000 for the Avon Foundation.
Not only did we print water bottles with Show Your Logo, we opted to print key tags and custom support bracelets. The addition of our handcrafted, Pink Ribbon bookmarks rounded out the kit of Pink Ribbon goodies we stuffed into those water bottles. We gave the promotional products kits away to business owners, friends, family, and who made donations. A table at a couple of craft shows and a display at a few garage sales also helped bring in the necessary funds. We requested a small, minimum donation in exchange for our Pink Ribbon promotional kit, and more often than not, we received more than our asking price. That’s the power of promotional products!
Of course, the personal aspect of our fundraising efforts definitely came into play. R and I intentionally wore our custom t-shirts each time we set out to raise funds at these events. R’s shirt was screen printed with a pink ribbon and displayed the word “Survivor” underneath. Mine? The same pink ribbon with the words “For my best friend.” We also wore these shirts on the first leg of our walk through the Rocky Mountains, all 26.2 miles on day one, and everyone knew our story with just a glance at our t-shirts. I spent my 35th birthday on that walk. We were young. R was young, and a sober reminder that breast cancer strikes women of all ages, not just the elderly.
Likewise, I’ll never forget the heart-wrenching moment a t-shirt told me the story of a woman, maybe a few years older than R and I, walking for her best friend. She was walking alone.
Walkers take in the view during the 2008 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in the Rocky Mountains.
It’s a terrible thing to be diagnosed with breast cancer (and particularly shocking at the age of 31), a wonderful thing to be a survivor, and a blessed thing that my best friend is still alive, well, and occasionally kicking my butt at Super Boggle on Friday nights. (We’re crazy that way.) Here’s to eight years CANCER FREE and counting, my friend!
