Most water resistant or water repellent fabrics feature a coating to resist absorption of water. These fabrics/garments should not be confused with the term “waterproof,” which will not absorb any water. Water resistant or repellent garments will eventually absorb some water if exposed to enough rain over time. Water resistant apparel often includes a rating that refers to how much water can be suspended above the fabric before water seeps through.
